About Cringle

Invite friends

Your personal invite link can be found if you click on “Invite Friends” in your profile. You can either copy this link and share it later or press "Share Link" and select any of the messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Mail or Twitter on your phone for sharing this link. The link will be automatically copied into a message and you can add or edit the text before sending it to your friends.

Of course, we will let you know, once your friends have installed Cringle.

Unfortunately, an adjustment is not possible as the amount of money transferred per month is limited by the German money laundering law. Customers of our bank partners DKB or Consorsbank have a monthly limit of EUR 250 instead of EUR 100 per month.

Cringle connects your bank account with your mobile phone number and enables you to send to or request money from all contacts on your phone. Debiting and crediting is done account to account without intermediary accounts. There is no need to charge your Cringle account as we are not a pre-paid system.

Just select a contact, enter an amount and hit “Send” and your money is on its way. Cringle is fast, secure and free of charge.

Cringle is free of charge for our users as we act as a service provider for our bank partners.

Absolutely! Share restaurant bills, costs for presents or costs for travel easy, fast and free of charge via Cringle. 
Try either sending your friends the amount you owe them or simply request their share.

Unfortunately, yes. The monthly limit for sending money is EUR 100. 

For Cringle users with an account at our bank partners DKB or Consorsbank the limit is EUR 250 per month.

Open the app, select a contact or enter a mobile phone number, enter an amount and a comment or purpose and press send. 

Confirm the transaction either by Cringle-PIN, Touch ID or Face ID.

Unfortunately we only support transfers to German or Austrian bank accounts.

Registration

During registration we ask you to verify your mobile phone number as your number is part of your identification as unique user.  Unfortunately we are not able to create an account without this information.

A verified phone number enables you to send money to any mobile phone number you choose. 

In order to verify your number you will receive a text message containing a 6 digit code. By entering this code inside the Cringle-app, your phone number and mobile device are associated securely with your Cringle account. 

For security reasons, your account can only be associated with one phone number and one device at a time. If you log into a different device, we will disconnect your old device.

During registration we ask you to verify your mobile phone number as your number is part of your identification as unique user.  Unfortunately we are not able to create an account without this information.

Cringle transfers money from your bank directly to the recipients bank account.

In order to use our service you need to be verified as account holder of the entered bank account.

The connection can be done via Cringle Instant Connect which will instantly verify your account or manually.

For the instant verification we kindly ask you to enter your online banking credentials. By entering these credentials your bank instantly confirms that you as account holder. No other data or account information is accessed. We don't store your credentials.

If you prefer to verify your bank account manually by entering your IBAN, you will be asked to enter a verification code which confirms your ownership of this bank account. 

The verification code can be found in the subject line of a transfer of € 0,01 we make to your bank account. Once this transfer has been credited to your bank account (usually after 1-2 banking days), please check your statements and look for a 6 digit verification code in the subject line.

Please enter this code in the Cringle-app in order to verify your bank account. 

In the Cringle App navigate to "Profile" > "Bank Account" > "Verify Bank Account" to enter the code.

Verification Code

If you added your bank account by manually entering your IBAN, your bank account still needs to be verified. 

To verify your bank account, we sent a  € 0,01 transfer containing a verification code to your bank account. You should see this transfer show up in your bank account 1-2 banking days after adding your bank account. In the subject line of this transfer you can find your 6 digit verification code. This code must be entered in the Cringle-app in order to completely verify your bank account. 

Inside the Cringle App navigate to Profile > Bank Account > Verify Bank Account to enter the code.

Your 4 digit Cringle-PIN is used to protect your Cringle account. 

Your PIN needs to be entered to confirm transactions and requests, view or edit your banking information or for confirmation of a SEPA mandate. Please make sure not to share your PIN with anybody.

In order to verify your mobile phone number you will receive a text message containing a 6 digit code. By entering this code inside the Cringle-app your phone number and mobile device are associated securely with your personal Cringle account.

Cringle is obligated by European banking regulations to inform you about any deductions made from your account via email. You will also receive a confirmation of your payment service contract with Cringle via email. 

Before you can send money with Cringle, please confirm your email address by clicking on the link in the email. 

We will never share your email with anyone.

In order to connect your Cringle account with a new mobile phone number, we need your old and new phone number as well as your 6-digit verification code. Please send this information to: support@cringle.net

(Reminder: Your verification code can be found on your account statement. Please look for the € 0,01 transfer you received during your registration.)

As soon as we have updated your phone number information in our system, you will receive a confirmation via email. After re-starting the Cringle-app you will be able send money as usual.

No, you only need to have a checking account at a German and Austrian bank.

For security reasons we have a multistep registration.

  • Please start with entering your mobile phone and entering the verification code you received via text message
  • Next, please select your 4-digit PIN
  • Enter your bank details either by selecting your bank from the list or via searching it. Please keep in mind that with banks like Sparkasse and Volksbank you will need to select the local branch where you opened your account.
  • Please verify your bank account either instantly via Cringle Connect or manually.
  • Please add your birthday and address.
  • Please grant us the mandate (SEPA mandate) to able to debit and the money you send and receive via Cringle to you checking account.

The SEPA mandate authorises the DKB by order and for account of Cringle to do direct debits to your account. You be notified by email at least one day in advance about any sums that will be debited from your account.

A joint account can be used as your checking account, however, only one individual user can be associated with this account.

Unfortunately, one account can’t be used simultaneously by two different Cringle users.

You can always change your bank details in your profile in the section “bank account” or you can send an email with your change request to support@cringle.net

Please keep in mind that your new bank account needs to be verified as well.

Kindly note, that all pending transaction made before you changed your account will be debited to your previous bank account.

Granting access to your contacts will make sending and requesting money even faster and easier for you as you no longer need to look up a contacts phone number and enter it manually.

No other data besides their phone number is accessed if this permission is granted. The gathered data is only used for an improved send and request process, not for any other purpose.

Transactions

Yes!
With Cringle you can send money to any mobile phone number. If the recipient of your payment is not registered yet, we will send a text message to his or her mobile phone number.

Within this the text message the recipient will find a link opening a secure website where he or she is asked for the details of the account the money should be debited to. 

No installation or registration needed!

As soon as the validity of both accounts is confirmed the initiated payment will be debited to the sender account via direct debit and credited to the recipients account.

Transaction timeline

1)    The money is debited to the senders account.The exact accounting date depends on the time you confirmed the transaction. You will be notified by email about the exact date of debiting. The money will be debited after a maximum of 3 days.

2)    The money will be credited to the recipients account.

The money will be transferred directly to the recipients account. All transactions before 04:00 PM will be credited no later than the next day. Recipients with a DKB account receive the money on the same day.

Unfortunately,  you need the Cringle-app to be able to send money.

Unfortunately, payment orders can’t be cancelled once you have confirmed them.

If a transaction is not processed yet it can be cancelled in exceptional cases. Please contact support@cringle.net as soon as possible.

Attention: Transactions which are not processed after 7 days will be automatically invalidated.

To make sure that paused transactions are not forgotten they are automatically invalidated after 7 days.

A pre-notification means that Cringle will notify you by email at least one calendar day prior to debiting an amount to your bank account. 

This way you are can ensure sufficient account coverage and avoid costs for returned direct debits.

In general, the money will be transferred to the recipient the same day. However, the exact time depends on the recipients’ bank and the time of your transaction. All transactions made before 04:00 PM are credited no later than the following day. Recipients with a DKB account will see transactions the same day.

On rare occasions transactions might be delayed for up to 7 days for security reasons. We apologize for the inconvenience.

As soon as a green checkmark appears next to a transaction the money gets transferred to your account.

To make sure that pending requests are not forgotten they expire automatically after 24 hours. 

Of course, you can send the same request again.

No, Cringle is not a pre-paid model. 

You don’t need to open a new virtual bank account as your Cringle account is connected to your regular checking account. Any amount you send or receive will be debited or credited directly from your bank account.

If a recipient hasn’t entered his bank details yet transactions will be paused and automatically invalidated after 7 days. If a recipient doesn’t have a valid bank account, there will be no money debited to the senders account. 

To receive money via Cringle the recipient only needs to state his bank details but not verify his bank account.

If you don't use the Cringle-app and somebody sent you money via Cringle you will receive a text message.

Within this text message please click on the link opening a secure website.

Please enter the following details on this website:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your IBAN / BIC
  • Your mobile phone number

As soon as all details are entered the money will be transferred to your bank account.

Troubleshooting

If you can't remember your PIN please contact our support team at support@cringle.net

Kindly note that we will need the verification code you received during registration to confirm your identity.

Please open your profile or menu and select "Account" > "Change PIN' 
Please select a new PIN and press confirm

If you are not able to log-in, please contact us at support@cringle.net

If a transaction is missing usually a re-start of the app makes it re-appear. 

Alternatively, you may want to try to delete and download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store again. 

If neither of these actions solve the issue, please contact us at support@cringle.net

On Apple devices like iPhones and iPads please open "Settings" > "Privacy Settings" > "Contacts" and use the switch next to the Cringle-App app to grant access.

On Android devices you grant access by downloading the app.

On Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad push notification permissions can be changed in "Settings'

Please open "Notifications" to enable or disable notifications and select how the notification will be displayed on your screen.

On Android devices notification permission can be found in "Settings" in "Google Account".

If you loose your phone or if it get's stolen your Cringle account can be immediately blocked.

Without entering your PIN it is not possible to send or request money from your account.

In case of theft you also file charges with the police without delay and send a copy of the report to the Deutsche Kreditbank AG.

Please connect your Cringle account to a new device.

On a new device please re-start the registration process.

Cringle.me-Link

To share your Cringle.me-link with your contacts please press the button "Share link".

A new window will show you now all messenger apps that you can use to share this link and you should also see a point called "Copy".

Please select one of the messenger apps. In the next step you can select one or more contact you would like to share this link with. Please press "Next" to proceed.

A new chat window will open and the link will be automatically copied into this chat. You may add a personal message to your contacts above the link. Please press "Send" to send this message.

To copy your Cringle.me-link please press the button "Share link".

A new window will show you now all messenger apps that you can use to share this link and you should also see a point called "Copy".

Please select "Copy". Your link is copied now. Now open a new note or a new email and insert the link if you click simply by selecting "Insert".

  • In your profile view please select the point “Activate Cringle.me-Link” and select a user name. User names can only contain lower case, “.” and “-“ characters as well as numbers. They must contain at least 3 but no more than 30 characters.
  • Please confirm your user name. Your personal Cringle.me-Link always contains your user name. Kindly note that your user name can’t be changed once you confirmed it.
  • To share your personal Cringle.me-Link please press the button “Share Link” and select a messenger app or choose “copy”.
  • You only need to activate once. To share it or copy this link again, open your profile and select the point “User name”

Unfortunately your user name can't be changed once you confirmed it.

Cringle QR-Codes

When making a new transaction, you now have the option to scan a code with our integrated QR code scanner. 

In order to use the scanner, please grant the Cringle app access to your camera. Cringle QR codes can be found, for example, on boxes of our Snackbox partners. After scanning the QR code the transaction screen will automatically pre-fill the recipient information.

iOS:
A tap on the "new transaction" button opens a view of your contacts. Our QR code scanner can be found in the bottom right corner.

As well as with quick access via Force Touch on the Cringle app icon.

Android:
By tapping the "plus" to make a new transaction, also the button for our QR-code scanner will show.

Data and Privacy

Two Factor Authentication is an extra layer of security that is known as "multi factor authentication" that requires not only a password and username but also something that only, and only, that user has on them, i.e. a piece of information only they should know or have immediately to hand.

We use the association of your mobile phone with your bank account as well as your unique PIN for authentication.

The statutory deposit guarantee secures customer deposits as well as liabilities from securities transactions. 

All Cringle transfers are subject to the VÖB compensation scheme which is a statutory deposit guarantee.

Segregated account is a bank account in which a customer's funds are held separate from the company funds.

Cringle is a financial service who has no access to the money you transfer.

Direct debits are processed by the Deutsche Kreditbank AG using a segregated account for transfer to the recipient. 

All Cringle transfers are subject to the VÖB compensation schema.

The  VÖB compensation scheme (statutory deposit guarantee) secures customer deposits as well as liabilities from securities transactions. The association’s Voluntary Guarantee Fund provides additional security for deposits.

Every user can request information about the personal data that is processed by Cringle.

Donations

Please download our app from the App Store or Google Play Store and complete all registration steps. Cringle currently partners with more than 26 different charities and NGOs such as WWF, PETA, Plant for the Planet, Street Child Germany and many more. We neither charge you nor our charity partners any transactional or administrational fees. You are free to select any amount starting from 1,00 EUR and up to your monthly limit.

To donate, please start a new transaction, select "Donations" in the upper left corner and select one of the listed charities. A click on a charities' name displays a short description of this organisation. Please press the "Donate" button and enter the amount you would like to donate, press "Donate" and confirm with your Cringle-Pin, Touch ID or Face ID.

To encourage your friends to donate as well, share your confirmation view via messaging app by pressing "Share". The message includes only the information that you sent a donation, the name of the charity and a link to our website but no information about the amount or any other personal details.

Donate Now

For donation amounts under 200 Euro, no additional donation receipt will be needed. In these situations, a bank statement from your house bank is generally sufficient to make the amount tax deductible. For donation amounts above 200 Euros, we will be happy to help you with your receipts and will gladly forward your request to our donation partners. Please contact us via e-mail at support@cringle.net for these requests.

In order to keep the administrative work for our partners as low as possible, we have sent the minimum donation limit to one euro. The maximum donation limit, however, depends on your active Cringle sending limit. Of course, it is possible to donate multiple times with Cringle.

Why does Cringle need access to my contacts?
By loading your contacts you are able to choose any of your friends as a recipient without entering their phone number manually. You will also be able to tell which of your contacts are already registered for Cringle through a small blue dot next to their avatar.

What about security?
When allowing access to your contact book, only their names and phone numbers will be sent encrypted and hashed to Cringle's servers. Non of this data is stored unencrypted and not even Cringle does have the ability to read or decrypt this data. This process is exclusively used to match existing Cringle users. This way you are able to see which of your contacts are already using Cringle (blue dot next to the avatar).

Of course you can also chose to decline the contact permission. You will still be able to send money to any mobile phone number, you will just have to enter it manually.

No data will ever be shared with third party services. Cringle is financed by its banking partners; NOT by selling data!

Your username enables you to generate simple payment-links. It is a unique name that you choose as part of your profile. It needs to be at least 3 but no more than 30 characters long. It can only contain lowercase characters as well as numbers and "." or "-".
Your username is part of your personal Cringle.me-link.
If you want to request money from one or more people, you can simply generate and share your Cringle.me-link via any messaging app and Cringle will ensure that all payments get transferred directly to your account.
